policy

Collaboration with suppliers is important to increase the effectiveness of sustainable procurement. Based on our Human Rights Policy and Environmental Policy, our Group established the Sustainable Procurement Policy and Procurement Standards in 2011, and we ask not only our own company but also our suppliers to comply with them. In addition, to proactively address various issues related to each raw material, we formulated the Palm Oil Procurement Policy in 2020 and the Soy Procurement Policy in 2022. After formulating each policy, we review them from time to time, for example by strengthening descriptions regarding human rights and the environment.

Soybean Procurement Policy

Soybeans are one of the important raw materials that support our business activities. In addition to uses such as edible oil and various soybean processed foods, they are also widely used for non-edible purposes such as biodiesel fuel and livestock feed, and the international demand for soybeans is steadily increasing. On the other hand, it has been pointed out that soybean production activities may cause environmental problems such as deforestation, and social problems such as human rights violations of indigenous peoples and workers.
We procure soybeans mainly from the United States and Brazil, manufacture products, and supply them to our customers. When procuring raw materials, we work to improve sustainability based on the "Sustainable Procurement Policy and Procurement Standards." With regard to soybeans, we have specifically established a "Soybean Procurement Policy" to ensure that procurement takes into consideration the environment and human rights, and we are a member of the Roundtable on Responsible Soy (RTRS*). As a company that supports food, we aim to improve traceability to fulfill our social responsibility, and strive to procure soybeans in a transparent and responsible manner.

*Round Table on Responsible Soy Association: A non-profit organization established in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006 to promote the expansion of responsible soybean production, trade and use.

Palm Oil Procurement Policy

Improved traceability

The food environment faces a wide range of challenges.
The supply and demand of grains and vegetable oils has been tightening due to factors such as reduced grain harvests caused by climate change and labor shortages caused by the global spread of COVID-19, resulting in an increased risk of price fluctuations.
Additionally, when procuring raw materials, it is also important to ensure safety and quality, and to respect the human rights of workers.
In order to ensure sustainable procurement of raw materials, we have been working to improve the traceability of palm oil and have also begun collecting information on soybean sourcing.
Companies must be proactive in solving environmental and social issues by being sensitive to new issues and needs, fulfilling their responsibilities, and providing new value. We will pursue sustainability in all areas, including the economy, environment, society, and working conditions, and promote ESG management.

Palm Oil Supplier Traceability Survey

Conducting on-site surveys

  • Sedex

In 2019, we joined Sedex as an A/B member*, which provides a common platform for connecting companies and suppliers on a global scale.
Sedex is the world's largest platform for managing and sharing supply chain data with the aim of realizing ethical and responsible business practices in the global supply chain. Customers and suppliers use a common platform to share information, identify issues with suppliers, understand the status of efforts to resolve those issues, and work to expand sustainable business practices. When you join Sedex, you are required to answer a global supplier questionnaire (SAQ: Self Assessment Questionnaire) in four areas: "labor standards," "health and safety," "environment," and "business ethics." We will make effective use of the Sedex program in the future to understand and improve sustainability issues in the supply chain from a global perspective.

*A/B Member: A member who has both A member functions as a buyer and B member who answers SAQs as a supplier.
